2020-2022 ASDAR State Parliamentarian

Barbara Lewis

The State Parliamentarian is appointed by the State Regent, with the approval of the Executive Committee, and serves as a consultant on parliamentary procedure, and the State Bylaws.  She assists the State Regent, Executive Officers, members of the State Board of Management, and State Chairs.

The parliamentarian shall serve in an advisory capacity, without a vote, and shall not be a member of the executive committee/state board of management. The parliamentarian shall maintain a file of current chapter bylaws.

The rules contained in the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern the Society in all cases in which they are not inconsistent with these Bylaws and the Bylaws of the National Society.

Knowing parliamentary procedure will give you confidence as you make decisions that directly effect the meeting in which you preside or participate. Meetings will run smoothly, be fair and impartial, and members will feel they have a voice–an opinion to share.

Remember if you have questions you can find a lot of answers and pointers on the National Web site for “Parliamentary Wise” ” that the National Parliamentarian posts. Her archived posts are also helpful.

If you have revised your bylaws in the last two years, please send me a copy by email (preferred) or mail.  If you have any questions about your bylaws or parliamentary procedure, please contact me by email and include a copy of the specific bylaw(s) in question.
