Welcome to the Five Rivers Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), chartered in Pocahontas, Arkansas, in 2024, the county seat of Randolph County.

Five Rivers was chosen as the chapter name because Randolph County is the only county in Arkansas with five rivers.  The rivers brought prosperity to the county during its early settlement, allowing for the shipment of goods to market.

We invite you to attend any of our meetings or events, meet our Daughters and learn how we promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism in our communities.

The rivers are:

  • Black River, named for its large population of river mussels.  The shells provided Mother of Pearl for the first button factory in the south.
  • Eleven Point River area has two of the oldest surviving structures in Arkansas; the Rice-Upshaw house constructed in 1828 and the William Looney Tavern built in 1833.
  • Current River’s west bank was the site of Pitman’s Ferry, the first river ferry in Arkansas Territory along the Southwest trail from Missouri.
  • Fourche River flows through Randolph County for 23 miles and empties into Black River.  The earliest settlers in the Fourche River Valley arrived sometime before 1812.
  • Spring River was the area during the Civil War where both sides operated.  The Skirmish at Martin’s Creek took place on a tributary stream north of the river in early 1864.

The Five Rivers Chapter, NSDAR’s, organizational meeting was held on September 28, 2024, and Arkansas State Regent Gale Markley officiated the induction of two new members and the first charter officers.  Chapter members come from Randolph and Lawrence County.

Five Rivers Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, meets the third Saturday of each month, September – May.
