Mine Creek-Paraclifta Chapter, NSDAR

Welcome to the Mine Creek-Paraclifta Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), chartered in Nashville, Arkansas!

Mine Creek Chapter, NSDAR, was organized April 16, 1960, under the direction of Miss Virginia Buxton, Organizing Regent. Mrs. Benjamin W. McCrary was State Regent at that time. The name was chosen by the charter members because of the major creek running through Howard County and the city of Nashville. Mine Creek flows into Millwood Reservoir. Mine Creek was named for the gypsum, salt, and slate mines that existed many years ago. The original Post Office was called Mine Creek.

Paraclifta Chapter, NSDAR, was organized on October 9, 1969. “Paraclifta” was the first County Seat of Sevier County, named for the Indian Chief, Paraclifta, who assisted and befriended early settlers of Southwest Arkansas.

The two chapters combined into one, based in Nashville, Arkansas, in 2008.

The Genealogy Room in the Howard County Public Library is the main project of the chapter.
